At Anand Niketan, we believe in achieving a balance between Formative & Summative Assessment. Assessment is for learning and not of learning. It is not simply testing children for quantity of information. It necessarily means collecting relevant information which can be applied upon to make further decisions.
Formativee Assessment is essentially 'Practice' and 'Student involvement' ( tools for assessment: class observation, quiz, self/peer assessment, field trips, academic games, projects over the year)
Summative assessment is done through recaps ( only for grade 1 to 3 ) to guage student learning relative to certain standards. Thus, it is an itegrated part of the quest for improved education and includes providing feedback to students as well as parents, paving the way for improvement.
There are no formal examinations. Progress reports are skill based and prepared on the basis of continuous observations which take into account classroom performance, interest shown in the subject, project work, presentations and regularity in work.
